Applying for your student visa

Once you have accepted and satisfied any conditions of your offer, we will issue you with your unconditional offer. Once you've accepted this, we will issue a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) for either a one-year or a four-year programme.

The CAS proves that you have been accepted on to a full-time course, and will be required when you apply for your Tier 4 (General) student Visa to study in the UK. You can use your CAS number to apply for your student visa in the three months before the start of the programme. Please note that If you use your CAS any earliler than this your application will be refused. If you're not sure when you can use your CAS please contact ISAS who will be happy to advise you

If you hold a conditional offer for the Foundation Pathways because you need to improve your English language level and you apply for a Presessional English programme, we will issue a CAS for the duration of that programme. Once you have successfully completed that programme, you will be issued a new CAS for the one-year or four-year Foundation Pathway programme and you'll be able to apply to extend your student visa. ISAS provides workshops to support students extending their visa in the UK.

The following programmes require additional conditions to be met during the foundation year:

  • BA Education (including Education with Sociology or History)
  • BSc Sport, Physical Education and Coaching Science
  • MPharm Pharmacy
  • BSc Physiotherapy
  • BSc Biomedical Materials Science

If you chose to study any of the degree programmes above and you've meet the conditions in your offer letter you will be issued with a one-year CAS only. Further information will be provided in your offer letter.

Once you have been issued with your CAS, the University’s International Students Advisory Service (ISAS) will contact you to offer support with the visa application process.

You can go to the visa information pages on the ISAS website for further information.
