University of Birmingham and Austria

We have a long tradition of welcoming students from Austria. There are currently 20 Austrian students following a range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses at the University.

The following information is for guidance only and should be used together with the University's general entrance requirements and any specific degree programme requirements.

Holders of the "Matura/Reifeprüfung" with a minimum overall score of 'pass with distinction' (mit gutem Erfolg bestanden) and subject grades between 2-1/5 (gut-sehr gut - good-very good) will be considered for entry to the first year of our undergraduate degree programmes.

Please refer to the information below as guidance for grade comparisons to A-level entry requirements:
A*AA - AAB 1/5 overall in the Matura/Reifeprüfung
ABB - BBB 2/5 overall in the Matura/Reifeprüfung 

Specific subject requirements:
A = 1/5 (sehr gut)
B = 2/5 (gut)

English proficiency: 2/5 (gut) in English (both written and oral examinations)


Holders of a Diplom, a Diplomstudium/Magister or a three-year Bachelors degree from a recognised university with a minimum GPA of 2.0-2.9 out of 5 for 2:1 equivalency or 3.0-3.5 for 2:2 equivalency, or a high-scoring Fachhochschuldiplom (FH) from a recognised Austrian Fachhochschule, will be considered for entry to taught postgraduate programmes.

Holders of a good four-year Diplomstudium/Magister from a recognised university, or a Masters degree, with a minimum GPA of 2.0-2.9 out of 5 will be considered for entry to postgraduate research programmes.

English Language

You will be required to provide evidence of your English ability. Please view the entry requirements for specific programme requirements.
