University of Birmingham and Belgium

We have a long tradition of welcoming students from Belgium. There are currently 30 Belgian students following a range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses at the University.


Entry requirements

The following information is for guidance only and should be used together with the University's general entrance requirements and any specific degree programme requirements.

Undergraduate

Holders of the "Certificat d'Enseignement Secondaire Supérieur Diplôme de l'Examen d'Admission; Diplôme d'Acces aux Etudes Supérieures / Brevet van de Aanvullende Secundaire Bereopsschool (Secondary Education Programme); or Getuignschrift van Hoger Secundair Onderwijs / Abschlußzeugnis der Oberstufe des Sekundarunterrichts" with a minimum overall score of 7/10 or 14-15/20 will be considered for entry to the first year of our undergraduate degree programmes.

Please refer to the information below as guidance for grade comparisons to A-level entry requirements:
A*AA - AAB 8/10 or 16/20 overall in the Certificat d'Enseignement Secondaire Supérieur Diplôme de l'Examen d'Admission or Diplôme d'Acces aux Etudes Supérieures
ABB - BBB 7/10 or 14/20 overall in the Certificat d'Enseignement Secondaire Supérieur Diplôme de l'Examen d'Admission or Diplôme d'Acces aux Etudes Supérieures
Specific subject requirements: A = 8/10 or 16/20
B = 7/10 or 14/20

English proficiency: 7.5/75% in English.

Postgraduate

Holders of a three-year Bachelors degree or a Licencié/Licentiaat from a recognised university or haute ecole/hogeschule with a minimum score of Avec distinction/Met onderscheiding (70% or 14/20) for 2:1 equivalence, or Avec Satisfaction/Met voldoening (60% or 12/20) for 2:2 equivalence, will be considered for entry to taught postgraduate programmes.

Holders of a good Licencié/Licentiaat from a recognised university or haute ecole/hogeschule with a minimum score of Avec distinction/Met onderscheiding (approximately 70% or 14/20), a good Diplôme d’Etudes Complémentaires/Gediplomeerde in de Aanvullende Studiën, or a Masters degree from a recognised university or haute ecole/hogeschule will be considered for entry to postgraduate research programmes.
