Entry requirements

The following information is for guidance only and should be used together with the University's general entrance requirements and any specific degree programme requirements.  

Please note: If you have taken exams which are from another country's national education system (eg SAT and AP exams from the USA) you should consult the country specific section for that country for qualification equivalence information. If you are unsure about the acceptability of your qualifications for entry to Birmingham please contact us for further details.

Foundation Pathways

Average of grade 2/good in either the Botswana General Certificate of Secondary Education Examination or Cambridge Overseas School Certificate, to include grade B in Mathematics for our Engineering and Physical Sciences pathway, or to include grade B in Biology for our MLGS pathway, that progresses to a Biology focused degree. 

If you have achieved English language at grade C or above, you will not be required to take an additional English proficiency test (for the 4-year programme)

Undergraduate

The University will consider students who have taken GCE A Level examinations, the International Baccalaureate (IB), or a suitable foundation programme, such as one of our Foundation Pathways, for entrance to undergraduate programmes.

Postgraduate

Students who hold a Masters degree from the University of Botswana with a minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0 or 3.5/5.0 (70%/B/'very good') will be considered for Postgraduate Diplomas and Masters degrees.

Please note 4-year bachelor degrees from the University of Botswana are considered equivalent to a Diploma of Higher Education. 5-year bachelor degrees from the University of Botswana are considered equivalent to a British Bachelor (Ordinary) degree.

Students who have completed a Masters degree from a recognised institution will be considered for PhD study.


English Language

English language at grade C6 or above is sufficient to meet the standard English language requirements.

The British Council has offices in many countries throughout the world which are able to provide you with advice about studying in the UK.
