Entry requirements

The following information is for guidance only and should be used together with the University's general entrance requirements and any specific degree programme requirements.  

Please note: If you have taken exams which are from another country's national education system (eg SAT and AP exams from the USA) you should consult the country specific section for that country for qualification equivalence information. If you are unsure about the acceptability of your qualifications for entry to Birmingham please contact us for further details.

Foundation Pathways

For entry to our foundation programme we would consider students who have completed Senior Secondary School (Titulo de Bachiller en Ciencias) with an overall grade of 16/20. To include 16/20 in Mathematics for the Engineering & Physical Sciences Pathway, or  16/20 in Biology for the MLGS pathway, which progresses to a Biology focused degree.

Undergraduate

Candidates from Ecuador generally require a) A levels or IB Diploma or b) Senior Secondary School (Titulo de Bachiller en Ciencias) plus a recognised foundation programme or c) successfully completed the first year of the Licenciado (with 70% or equivalent GPA)

The University will consider students who have taken GCE A Level examinations, the International Baccalaureate (IB), or a suitable foundation programme, such as the Foundation Pathways, for entrance to undergraduate programmes.

Postgraduate

Holders of the Licenciado or an equivalent professional title from a recognised Ecuadorian university may be considered for entry to a postgraduate degree programme. Grades of 70% or higher can be considered as UK 2.1 equivalent.

Applicants for PhD level study will preferably hold a Magister/Masterado or equivalent qualification, but holders of the Licenciado with excellent grades can be considered.

Students who have completed a Masters degree from a recognised institution will be considered for PhD study.

English Language

You may be required to provide evidence of your English ability. Please view the entry requirements for specific programme requirements.
