The University extends a warm welcome to students from Kazakhstan.  We welcome a number of sponsored students to Birmingham each year and have a Memorandum of Understanding with Kazakh British Technical University in the Engineering and Physical Sciences, and Economics, subject areas.

Entry requirements

The following information is for guidance only and should be used together with the University's general entrance requirements and any specific degree programme requirements.  If you are unsure about the acceptability of your qualifications for entry to Birmingham please contact us for further details.

Foundation Pathways 

We will consider students who have obtained grades of 4/5 and above in the Certificate of (Completed) Secondary Education (Oрта білім туралы аттестат/Аттестат о среднем (полном) общем образовании) for entry to our Foundation Pathways (to include 4/5 in Maths for our Engineering and Physical Sciences pathway or at least 4/5 in Biology for our MLGS pathway, that progresses to a Biology focused degree).

The University will consider students who have taken GCE A Level examinations, the International Baccalaureate (IB), or a suitable foundation programme, such as our Foundation Pathways, for entrance to undergraduate programmes.


Students who have completed their Specialist Diploma Мамаң дипломы/Диплом специалиста) or "Magistr" (Магистр дипломы/Диплом магистра) degree (completed after 1991) from a recognised higher education institution, with a minimum GPA of 4/5, will be considered for entry to postgraduate Masters degrees and, occasionally, directly for PhD degrees.

Holders of a Bachelor "Bakalavr" degree (Бакалавр дипломы/Диплом бакалавра) from a recognised higher education institution, with a minimum GPA of 4/5, may also be considered for entry to taught postgraduate programmes.

The University of Birmingham has many strong alumni groups all over the world. Alumni groups are an excellent way of keeping in contact with the University and with other graduates from Birmingham who live in your country. Some alumni groups meet on a regular basis for social and professional events.
