We have a long tradition of welcoming students from Portugal. There are currently 57 Portuguese students following a range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses at the University.

Undergraduate

Holders of the Certificado de fim de Estudos Secundários / Diploma de Ensino Secundario (previously Certificado do 12 ano) will be considered with the following grade equivalencies: 

A*AA - 18/20 overall with 19, 18, 18 in 3 year 12 subjects 

AAA - 18/20 with 18, 18, 18 in 3 year 12 subjects 

AAB - 17/20 with 18, 18, 17 in 3 year 12 subjects 

ABB - 17/20 with 18, 17, 17 in 3 year 12 subjects 

BBB 17/20 with 17, 17, 17 in 3 year 12 subjects 

Subject specific requirements: 

A* - 19 

A - 18 

B - 17 

Postgraduate

Holders of a good Licenciado from a recognised university, or a Diploma de Estudos Superiores Especializados (DESE) from a recognised Polytechnic Institution, with a minimum overall grade of 16 out of 20, bom com distinção ‘good with distinction’, for 2:1 equivalence, or 14 out of 20, bom ‘good’, for 2:2 equivalence, will be considered for entry to taught postgraduate programmes. 

Holders of a good Licenciado from a recognised university, or a Diploma de Estudos Superiores Especializados (DESE) from a recognised Polytechnic Institution, with a minimum overall grade of 16 out of 20, and/or a good Mestrado / Mestre (Masters) from a recognised university, will be considered for entry to postgraduate research programmes.

English Language

You will be required to provide evidence of your English ability. Please view the entry requirements for specific programme requirements.

If you do not have the required level of English or would like to improve your English before the start of the academic year, you can take one of our pre-sessional English language courses.

Funding

For undergraduate study, EU students can apply for a tuition fee loan from the British Government.

For taught and research Masters courses, EU students (subject to meeting the eligibility criteria) can apply for a postgraduate loan of up to £10,280 for the 2017-18 academic year.
