Entry requirements

The following information is for guidance only and should be used together with the University's general entrance requirements and any specific degree programme requirements.

Please note: If you have taken exams which are from another country's national education system (eg the Abitur from Germany or SAT and AP exams from the USA) you should consult the country specific section for that country for qualification equivalence information. If you are unsure about the acceptability of your qualifications for entry to Birmingham please contact us for further details.


Students who have completed the Devlet Lise Diplomasi or Lise Bitirme Diplomasi with an overall score of at least 3/5 or 60/100 will be considered for the Birmingham Foundation Academy programme.

The University will consider students who have taken A Level examinations or the International Baccalaureate (IB) for entrance to undergraduate programmes.

Students who hold the Lise Diplomasi and who have completed a suitable foundation programme, such as the Birmingham Foundation Academy, will be considered for admission to a Bachelor degree programme.

Holders of the Lise Diplomasi or Lise Bitirme Diplomasi from certain schools with a score of 4/5 or 70/100, or who have also taken SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) and AP (Advanced Placement) tests will be considered for admission to Bachelor degree programmes.  For more deails on SAT and AP requirements, please refer to the USA country-specific pages.


Holders of a good Lisans Diplomasi with a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 from a recognised university will be considered for postgraduate study at Diploma or Masters level.

Holders of a Yuksek Diplomasi from a recognised university will be considered for PhD study.

You may be required to provide evidence of your English ability.  See the entry requirements for specific programme requirements.

The Birmingham Foundation Academy accepts applications from Turkish students and we have vdeos about the programme which are subtitled into Turkish.

Many nationality groups form student societies during their time at the University of Birmingham. This is an excellent way to keep in contact with home and also provides an opportunity to highlight your culture and customs in the UK.

The University of Birmingham has many strong alumni groups all over the world. Alumni groups are an excellent way of keeping in contact with the University and with other graduates from Birmingham who live in your country. Some alumni groups meet on a regular basis for social and professional events.
