Entry requirements

The following information is for guidance only and should be used together with the University's general entrance requirements and any specific degree programme requirements.  Please note: If you have taken exams which are from another country's national education system (eg SAT and AP exams from the USA) you should consult the country specific section for that country for qualification equivalence information. If you are unsure about the acceptability of your qualifications for entry to Birmingham please contact us for further details.

Birmingham Foundation Academy

Applicants who possess high school leaving qualifications equivalent to UK ‘A’ levels will not normally be considered eligible for the foundation. However if you choose to take the BFA as an adjustment year, you would be required to have at least an ABB profile, to include Mathematics for the Engineering and Physical Sciences pathway. For further information see the Birmingham Foundation Academy website.

The University will consider students who have taken GCE A Level examinations, the International Baccalaureate (IB), the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE), Cambridge Overseas Higher School Certificate, East African Advanced Certificate of Education or a suitable foundation programme, such as the Birmingham Foundation Academy, for entrance to undergraduate programmes.

Students who have completed a Bachelor degree from a recognised institution will be considered for postgraduate study and for most masters programmes will require a second class upper or GPA of 3.5/5.

Students who have completed a Masters degree from a recognised institution will be considered for PhD study.

English Language

You may be required to provide evidence of your English ability. Please view the entry requirements for specific programme requirements.
