Graduating and becoming an alumnus

You don’t need to do anything to become an alumnus of the University – when you graduate, it happens automatically.

The Alumni Relations team will be manning stands on your graduation day, so look out for us as we will be able to give you a host of information about what it means to be a University of Birmingham alumnus.

To find out everything you need to know about your graduation and degree congregation, see our graduation website.

Our thousands of alumni live and work all over the world. By keeping in touch with the University after your graduation, you can stay connected to this influential network online through Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn and in person through alumni groups and exclusive events.

We also like to know how you’re getting on after University, and shortly after your graduation, we’ll ask you to take part in the Destinations of Leavers from Higher Education (DLHE) survey.

The data collected for this survey helps us

  • Analyse employability trends across subject areas and work out where our students go on to work and study
  • Plan for the future and support the Careers and Employability Centre’s work with current students
