Could alumni enhance your event?

We can put you in touch with inspiring alumni for networking, motivational talks or careers-focused events. Alumni can speak on many current topics as well as their career, time at Birmingham and involvement in your society.

Hannah Lane, BA International Relations 2013, PolSoc Vice President, “We found the support offered by the Alumni Office to be invaluablein organising various events, including a careers advice evening with alumni from the Politics department of the University. The Alumni Office is always happy to help with our events, and have supported us in the organisation and planning stages right up until the event itself. With tailored support and always being able to answer queries quickly, you should definitely make use of the resources offered by the Alumni Office, you won’t regret it!”

Here's our top tips for working with alumni speakers:

Earlier the better - our alumni are busy people and will require notice to get time off work, many alumni in senior positions plan their diaries at least six months in advance! Think about an evening event - it's easier for alumni given work commitments/travel.

Invites - Could you invite alumni from certain degree courses, past members of your society, in specific industries or working for a particular company? We can make sure we are contacting those alumni that you really want there.

Keep in contact - Keep us up to date with event developments, even if there are issues, as we can usually help!

The logistics - room bookings, refreshments, name tags, travel arrangements and directions! We can advise what's best!
