Access to Birmingham Scholarships

Birmingham was founded on the belief that a university education should be available to those who could benefit most. No student with the talent and potential to succeed should be dissuaded in any way by their social and economic position.

The Access to Birmingham (A2B) Scheme offers students the life-changing experience of attending university. We are immensely proud of our pioneering A2B scheme, which encourages talented students from families and communities in the West Midlands who have little or no experience of Higher Education to gain access to the University. The A2B Scholarship, worth £1,500 a year, ensures that financial support is available to the most able who have shown a commitment to achieve at university but who otherwise may not move into higher education because they are not able to afford it or simply have no family history of doing so.

Psychology teacher and A2B Scholarship recipient

“The scholarship helped me not to worry about money and to just focus on my education. Without it I believe I would not have been able to become a teacher and in turn help young people fulfil their educational aspirations and dreams.”

Thanks to the support of our alumni, supporters and friends, the Access to Birmingham (A2B) has already offered 720 such students an unrivalled opportunity to succeed despite difficult personal or financial circumstances. It facilitates the transition from school to university, opening doors and encouraging them to thrive.
