Whether you need support and advice, a job or work experience, we are here to help you make the transition from university graduate to employee.
Support and advice
Birmingham is committed to supporting its alumni as they enter the world of employment. Careers advice is available from Careers Network for two years after graduation, and you can meet with a professional adviser at our drop-in centre. The centre also holds a wide range of workshops and events designed to help improve your skills and confidence.
Looking for a job or an employee
Alumni who are members of our your.bham website can find or post vacancies online. The Alumni Office holds professional networking events that are ideal for developing your portfolio of business contacts and you can also join a virtual network of alumni through our LinkedIn group, called University of Birmingham Alumni and Friends.
In the current economic climate, it is more important than ever for our students to obtain relevant work experience. If your business or organisation is able to offer work experience, internships or placements, please email the Assistant Director Work Experience Sue Welland at firstname.lastname@example.org or telephone on +44 (0)121 414 8180.
Supporting current students
The University always needs alumni from all sectors of employment to speak to students at careers events. If you feel you can give something back to Birmingham in this way, please contact Careers Network on +44 (0)121 414 6120.
Mentoring is a great way of supporting a current student. It provides the opportunity to help set and achieve career goals and make a significant impact on students’ confidence and knowledge. It enables you to share your experiences, give constructive advice and information. If you're interested in becoming a mentor, please complete our application form and Careers Network will contact you.
