Professor Sir Keith Porter
The Birmingham Medical Leadership Society are pleased to be hosting a lecture delivered by Professor Sir Keith Porter on setting up a major trauma centre. Healthcare professionals of any level of training or specialty, from undergraduate to consultant, are cordially invited to attend. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions and discuss career opportunities. Professor Porter is the Clinical Lead for Trauma Services at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital here in Birmingham, one of the leading trauma centres in the UK. He leads a team of 10 military and civilian trauma consultants treating seriously injured patients at QEHB. This includes all military patients evacuated from operational areas for treatment of traumatic injuries. His team also plays a major role in the work of the NIHR Surgical Reconstruction & Microbiology Research Centre, which works closely with researchers to gather data and also instigate their own research programmes. Professor Porter remains the UK’s only Professor of Clinical Traumatology and he has been at the forefront of developing world class treatments for injured military servicemen and women over the past 10 years. He is also the chair of the annual International Trauma Conference, and was knighted in the 2010 New Year’s Honours List for services to the Armed Forces.
