As part of a wider visit to Chicago, Professor Ann Sumner, Director of the Barber Institute of Fine Arts, gave an exclusive presentation to 15 alumni and their guests entitled 'Director's Choice: Masterpieces by Bellini, Murillo, Gainsborough, Manet, and Monet from the Barber Institute of Fine Arts', which highlighted her personal favourites from the internationally-famous collections.
Following the presentation, alumni were given a private tour of the Arts Institute of Chicago led by Adrienne Jeske, Senior Collections Manager, Medieval to Modern European Painting and Sculpture. Adrienne pointed out many of the pictures that had links with the Barber Institute and provided insights into the relationship between the two collections. The tour was then followed by lunch at Terzo Piano in the new modern wing of the Arts Institute.
Some of the alumni who attended the event had first visited the Barber Institute while studying at Birmingham and had fond memories of it, some even returning to campus especially to revisit the collections.
