On Friday 4 December, alumni, friends and prospective students joined Professor Andy Schofield, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Head of the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences, and Sally Schofield, Admissions Tutor for the School of Mathematics, for a reception in Kuala Lumpur. Mala

More than 40 alumni, friends and prospective students met up to network, discuss current news about the University and reflect on their experiences in Birmingham at the Traders Hotel Kuala Lumpur.

In his speech, Professor Schofield spoke about the University's achievements in 2015, including the discovery of one of the world’s oldest Qur’an manuscripts within its Mingana Collection, as well as being awarded the accolade of “University of the Year for Graduate Employment” by The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2016.

Professor Andy Schofield

“Over 2,500 Birmingham alumni currently reside in Malaysia; and over 230 students from Malaysia are currently studying a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate courses at Birmingham. Foreign students build strong connections with the country they’re studying in. While most do go home, they all retain a degree of attachment to that country and university. Your presence here tonight is testament to that.”
