The University of Birmingham has teamed up with Birmingham based charity Cure Leukaemia to raise vital funds for research taking place in Birmingham's leading Centre for Clinical Haematology.
Together, we are aiming to raise £250,000 from 1,000 runners to significantly improve the already superb care available to leukaemia patients in the West Midlands, thanks to University research that is being translated every day into real treatments. The £250,000 development will allow the continued delivery of high quality care, increased bed capacity, reduced waiting times, an improved patient experience, and create additional staffing opportunities amongst other benefits.
We are encouraging alumni, friends, students and staff of the University of Birmingham to join our local community in running the BUPA Great Birmingham Run on 19th October 2014 to raise money to support this fantastic facility.
Once you register your interest using the form below, Cure Leukaemia will contact you directly with all the details. We will pay your entrance fee and send you a t-shirt to run in, but ask you to raise a minimum sponsorship of £350, all of which will go directly to saving patients’ lives.
Are you part of a team at work? Do you know other alumni of the University of Birmingham who would also like to run the half marathon? You can create team pages on Just Giving once you've made your own fundraising page. We will contact you when it's time to start fundraising, but in the meantime, download our fundraising pack for ideas.
When you're ready to get started, download our half marathon training plan, specially developed by Dr Ian Boardley from the University's Sport and Exercise Science department, designed for beginner runners.
Why not make a reunion weekend out of it? Walkabout on Birmingham's Broad Street, where the run finishes, will be hosting a post-run party with your first celebratory drink and other refreshments provided on us!
We will then send you confirmation of your place on the half marathon, as well as a token for registering to run.
