Two alumni were among the team who scooped the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Specialist Factual award for documentary Flying Monsters 3D.
Presented by honorary Birmingham graduate Sir David Attenborough (Hon DLitt, 1982) and co-produced by Martin Williams (BSc Biological Sciences, 1997), the programme used cutting-edge 3D technology to uncover the truth about pterosaurs, giant flying monsters whose evolution remains important today.
The win made Sir David the only person to have won BAFTA awards in radio, black and white, colour, high definition and now 3D.
On receiving the award, Sir David said: ‘I am thrilled to bits to win and I had a marvellous time too. It is really thrilling working in a new medium. Next we are moving on with 3D and I can’t wait.’
