The University has many connections with the Olympic games due to its proud sporting tradition. The gallery below shares a few of the University’s many Olympic memories including the recent visit from the Jamaican track and field team in their build up to the London 2012 games.
The gallery also features images from two alumni Olympians; Audrey Court MBE (BA Social and Political Science, 1936) and Dr Barbara Slater (BA Physical Education, 1981).
Audrey completed the year of her graduation in the 1936 Berlin Olympics, winning a silver medal in the 4 x 100 metres sprint.
Barbara competed at the 1976 Montreal games in Gymnastics before completing her degree at the University. She has since gone on to become the first female Head of Sport at the BBC and has overall responsibility for BBC Sport’s coverage of the London 2012 Olympics.
With several students and alumni involved in this summer’s games let’s hope more great moments can be created!
The University’s Cadburys research library is running an ‘Olympic memories’ exhibition open to all in the Muirhead Tower until September 10. An online version of the exhibition is also available on Flickr
