The University of Birmingham aims to open the University of Birmingham School and Sixth Form in September 2014, with intakes into Year 7 and Year 12 (Sixth Form).
We have now submitted an application to the Department for Education for permission to open this school. We are also working in collaboration with the Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA) to ensure that the School will be part of their elite network of University Training Schools, providing excellent teaching training and education in collaboration with outstanding teacher training programmes at universities. This would build on the University's "outstanding" OfSTED certification for its teacher training programmes, received in 2011.
Part of the application process involves gathering evidence of demand for the school from parents and students. Without such evidence the application cannot proceed. Although the application has been submitted, it is still possible to submit expressions of interest using the link above and on the left-hand menu.
We hope to have a decision from the Department for Education about whether we can proceed by summer/autumn 2012.
