Biography

David spent more than twenty years as a correspondent and presenter with BBC Television and is a former Executive Director of The Football Association (FA).

During his broadcasting career, doubling up as both a political and sports correspondent, he reported on General Elections and World Cups. David joined The FA in 1994 as its first Director of Public Affairs, and rose to become The FA's Executive Director with responsibility for international relations. He now travels widely, advising sporting organisations and others on communications and corporate governance. David broadcasts regularly on radio and television, and contributes to newspapers and magazines. His story "FA Confidential" became a best seller and he was awarded an OBE for services to sport in 2006.

David became a member of Council in December 2011.

Other activities

Richard is a Birmingham graduate (Physiology, 1983 and Medicine, 1986) and became a member of Council in August 2010.  He has strong interests in global health and the contribution medicine makes to wider culture. He looks forward to seeing the University secure strong ties with the local community and to becoming truly global.
