Martin joined Goldman Sachs in 1992, becoming a Managing Director in 1989, Partner in 2002 and an Advisory Director in 2012. In his current advisory role, Martin has a focus on emerging markets and, in particular, Africa. Over his 21 years at the firm, he has been responsible for the equities business in both the developed European markets as well as those of the emerging European economies. He has travelled extensively in these roles and worked both in London and New York for Goldman.
Martin is an experienced angel investor and works with a number of start ups and SMEs across a broad range of sectors including education. He is also involved in a number of philanthropic projects that combine a focus on education in the developing world.
Martin is a Birmingham graduate (Commerce and Industrial Economics, 1986) and joined the Council in August 2010.
In addition to his membership of Council, he also serves on the Strategy, Planning and Resources Committee and the Investment Sub-Committee.
