Norman Price was educated in the West Midlands, followed by a physics degree from Imperial College, and Management education at Aston and London business schools. His first career was in TI Group and British Steel becoming Managing Director of Seamless Tubes Ltd, followed by a Group Executive Director of Triplex Lloyd plc. He has subsequently been involved in a range of commercial, financial and economic development activities.
He has been a director of many commercial companies and is currently Chair of Ecologic, an innovative water control start-up, a non-executive Director of BSI, the international standards organisation, and a guardian of the Birmingham Assay Office. He is also a Director of Investbx, the Birmingham based share exchange, Alta Innovations and sits on the advisory boards of the Mercia Fund and IXC, the innovation exchange.
Nationally, until 2007, Norman was a senior part time industrialist in the DTI, leading on issues of finance, tax and investment, including the publication of the R&D, Capex and Value Added scoreboards. He has also been a longstanding member of CBI SME council and Tax committees. He continues to be a Vice president of EEF and member of the EEF Economic Policy Group.
In the West Midlands, Norman was an Advantage West Midlands Board member until December 2006, the final 3 years as Deputy Chair. He continues to Chair the Enterprise Board and the Regional Finance Forum on behalf of the Agency. He is Chair of Birmingham Science City, and Chair of ASIP board, a sensor joint venture between Qinetiq and AWM. Norman is also a member of the regional Innovation and Technology Council and European Programme Monitoring Committee. He was awarded the OBE in 2002 and honorary doctorates from Birmingham and Wolverhampton Universities.
Norman joined the Council in 2007 and currently serves on the Investment Sub-Committee, the Audit Committee and Research and Knowledge Transfer Committee.
