Robert Halton is the HR Director for Burges Salmon with responsibility for the people agenda. Previously a member of the Board at the College of Law, before that role he was the Global Chief People Office for the international law firm DLA Piper.
He graduated from University College, Durham with a Geography degree in 1980 and is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society. Robert served in the Royal Navy, leaving in 1989 with the rank of Lieutenant Commander, and moved into the professional services sector specialising in Human Resources. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management.
Robert joined the Council in January 2009 and is passionate about education and the role of the University, both locally and globally. He believes the development of skilled graduates is critical to building competitive advantage. Robert is currently a member of the Remuneration Committee and the Strategy, Planning and Resources Committee.
