The three-and four-year undergraduate programmes, and postgraduate programmes at the University of Birmingham Dubai have been developed by world leading staff and researchers. It is a privilege to learn from such pioneers in their fields and we expect to attract the brightest students from around the world to study with us in Dubai, as we do to our UK campus.

Our four year programmes include an integrated foundation year entry which you may need to take depending on your previous study.

Please note, our courses will be updated over the next few months for our Dubai programmes. In addition we will not be offering optional modules for our Dubai programmes.

 

Undergraduate programmes

Business Management BSc (Hons) (3 or 4 years)

The Business Management BSc (Hons) equips you with the expertise needed to lead, change and understand business and management on both a national and global scale. It is structured to reflect the changing world of business. This degree combines the latest research and thinking with the philosophy that future leaders of industry should have a sound, broad-based business education. We advocate an enquiry-based learning approach, from the outset you will be encouraged to become an independent and self-motivated learner. Computer Science BSc (Hons) (3 or 4 years)

Computer scientists design and create search engines, social networking applications, software applications used in the financial world to map customer profiles and expose credit card fraud, and software applications used in the medical sector to identify cancers through the analysis of medical images. During this course, you will learn about all kinds of computational systems, their theory, design, development and application. This includes programming languages, software engineering, artificial intelligence, operating systems, databases, nature-inspired computation, concurrent computing, robotics and the theory of computation. Economics BSc (Hons) (3 or 4 years)

The Economics BSc (Hons) programme is an exciting chance to explore some of the increasingly prominent economics issues affecting 21st-century political and current affairs. Economics is an intellectually challenging discipline that builds important skills and techniques in using maths and applying statistical data, as well as wider transferable skills, all of which will make you a highly sought-after graduate with a significant advantage in the employment market. Mechanical Engineering BEng (Hons) (3 or 4 years)

Mechanical Engineering is a professional discipline as important as medicine – for which it supplies many solutions in terms of life-saving equipment, life-enhancing artificial limbs, pacemakers, microscalepumps, incubators, etc. Mechanical engineers design, analyse and manufacture machines that move using gears: from giant earth-moving machines and huge turbines in power stations, to all types of road and rail vehicles, space rockets and satellites. We design tiny micro gears that power medical equipment, handheld computers and mobile phones. We also make industrial robots; the machines that make other products. Our Mechanical Engineering BEng (Hons) produces graduates who are creative, highly numerate and skilled at solving problems and delivering results. Postgraduate programmes

Computer Science MSc

The MSc Computer Science is a Masters degree course for students who have a first degree in a subject other than computing. Designed to open the door to exciting new career opportunities in computer science and information technology, the programme is suitable for graduates from diverse subject backgrounds. The programme is different to IT programmes, in that it is a technical degree with a significant programming component. It is designed to give you a grounding in both the fundamentals of computer science and practical software development skills. Students join this programme from a wide range of first degrees, from the technical and scientific to the social sciences and humanities. Graduates of this degree are highly sought after by employers due to the special knowledge, expertise and skills acquired.

PGCert in Secondary English Education (Teaching Studies)

Designed for those who want to teach pupils aged 11-18, the Secondary English Education programme is a full time one year programme with some of this time being spent in placement schools. It includes study around teaching methods, school-based work and whole-school issues. This course is designed to enable students to become reflective, confident practitioners, as well as offering a strong conceptual framework about education, children, English and classroom teaching. The programme is designed to meet recognised teacher standards in the UAE and UK and time is spent in placement schools to develop the necessary experience and skills.

Graduates progress to careers as secondary school teachers of English.  

PGCert in Secondary Science Education (Teaching Studies)

Designed for those who want to teach pupils aged 11-18, the Secondary Science Education programme is a full time one year postgraduate course and includes study around teaching methods, school-based work and whole-school issues in a variety of settings. The course develops skills and abilities in understanding the complexities which surround the teaching and learning of science; the subject knowledge and the pedagogy. The programme is designed to meet recognised teacher standards in the UAE and UK and time is spent in placement schools to develop the necessary experience and skills.

Graduates progress to careers as secondary school teachers of Science and many of our former students hold promoted posts. 

PGCert in Secondary Maths Education (Teaching Studies)

Designed for those who want to teach pupils aged 11-18, the Secondary Maths Education programme is a full time one year postgraduate course and includes study around teaching methods, school-based work and whole-school issues. The course develops a deep understanding of issues and complexities which surround the teaching and learning of mathematics. We wish to develop you as a thinking teacher who can be aware of choices in how to teach mathematics and make informed decisions about how you work with students. The programme is designed to meet recognised teacher standards in the UAE and UK and time is spent in placement schools to develop the necessary experience and skills.

Graduates progress to careers as secondary school teachers of Maths.  

PGCert in Primary Education (Teaching Studies)

Suitable for those interested in becoming a teacher across the full 5-11 age range the Primary Education programme is a full time one year postgraduate programme. The programme is designed to help you plan, teach and develop your classroom skills within the Primary age range. Time within the programme is spent developing necessary subject knowledge in English, Maths and Science alongside the consideration of whole school issues such as Managing Behaviour. The programme is designed to meet recognised teacher standards in the UAE and UK and time is spent in placement schools to develop the necessary experience and skills.

Graduates progress to careers as primary school teachers and many previous students have subsequently gone on take on leadership roles.
