The LGBT History Month pre-launch is a community educational event that prepares teachers, educators and young people for February LGBT History Month celebrations within their schools and workplaces.
Each year LGBT History Month focuses on a specific subject area from the curriculum. 2013 was dedicated to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) thus we held our pre-launch 2012 at Bletchley Park to study and engage students and guests with the work of Alan Turing, the mathematician who broke the enigma code. Past pre-launches have been held at The Royal Courts of Justice , The Oval and The British Museum.
2014 is dedicated to ‘Music'. Participants confirmed for the evening event include the Birmingham Gay Symphony Orchestra, the cast of Rent, and Vix from Fuzzbox who will perform Say it Loud, the anthem for History Month, Michael Cashman MEP, Rainbow Voices, the best of schools performances.
The event will be hosted by comedian Barbara Nice.
With 'Music' as the theme, this year’s Pre-Launch event promises to be one of the best ever. The day begins with morning music workshops for secondary and primary schools in the Barber Institute of Fine Art and Tiverton Primary focussing on LGBT musicians Benjamin Britten, Angela Morley, Ethel Smyth and Bessie Smith.
The aim is to increase participation from all schools and the community to highlight achievements of LGBT musicians through workshops for school students, a schools concert and an evening extravaganza of performances from high profile musicians, Birmingham schools, colleges and universities, local bands, celebrities, MPs and key speakers.
6:30-10pm - The "Say It Loud" Extravaganza.
