An exhibition by the Cadbury Research Library of original drawings from the collection of the celebrated artist Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema R.A. (1836-1912). Dutch born Alma-Tadema settled in London in 1870 and was renowned for his paintings of opulent scenes in classical settings. The full personal archive of Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema comprising over 500 drawings and 5000 photographs is owned by the University and available for study in the Cadbury Research Library reading room. The collection was acquired by the University from the V&A in 1946. This exhibition showcases a small selection of the works, including Alma-Tadema's sketches of archaeological remains from classical Rome, Greece and early Egypt.
