As part of the Vice-Chancellor’s Distinguished Lecture series, the University is delighted to welcome renowned human-rights campaigner, Shami Chakrabarti CBE, to deliver a keynote talk.

Ms Chakrabarti has been Director of Liberty (The National Council for Civil Liberties) since 2003 and was one of the six independent assessors chosen to advise Lord Justice Leveson in his Public Enquiry into the Culture, Practice and Ethics of the UK press.

A barrister by background, she first joined Liberty as In-House Counsel in 2001 and became heavily involved in its engagement with the ‘War on Terror’ and the defence and promotion of human rights in Parliament, the Courts and wider society.
