CEPLER provides professional input into some existing modules, whereby practising barristers and solicitors, as well as other professionals whose work impacts upon and is affected by the law, will contribute to lectures. The aim is to ensure that students are exposed to a different, more professionally– and policy-oriented perspective as part of their studies, so that their academic understanding of a subject is enhanced by seeing its practical import. Further, the Centre will co-ordinate, enhance and extend the professional education opportunities offered by Birmingham Law School.
CEPLER has specific responsibility to build on links with the legal profession so as to ensure that our students get as much help as they need in making informed choices about their careers. The Centre has a dedicated careers coordinator who acts as a source of information within the law school on careers, but will also help law students make the most of the University Careers Service.
