Learn a language, experience a new culture. There's something for everyone on our Open Access Programme.
Languages for All runs courses for University of Birmingham students, staff, and members of the public. Courses are held on the main University Edgbaston campus
Enrolment is now open for 2013/2014. Please read the information below and then check dates and times under languages offered (Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Spanish) before making a booking.
Unfortunately we are unable to offer all languages at all times.
Fee for 2013/2014: £225 (£175 UoB students).
Groups consist of a maximum of 16 students.
Most of our courses have a set textbook which you will need to buy. Details will be given at the first class.
Languages for All only accepts students who are 18 years of age or over at the time of enrolment.
Before enrolling on a course always check your starting level. Don't guess. One of the key factors in getting the most out of your language course is to start at the correct level, and this will depend on your previous language experience.
If you have not studied the language before and are a complete Beginner, you should select a Level 1 course.
Previous knowledge of the language
If you have some previous knowledge of the language but are unsure of your current level, refer to the Quick Guide below and maybe try one of our placement tests which you can print and complete at leisure. We have tests for most of the languages offered and they will give you an indication of your current language level.
