Welcome to one of a series of podcasts produced by the Health Services Management Centre’s Library and Information Service.

Hello, my name is Rachel Posaner and within this very short podcast I am going to provide you with some information about borrowing from the library.

The HSMC library houses a specialist collection on the non-clinical aspects of healthcare which includes subjects such as: primary care, health policy, commissioning, local government, leadership, organizational development. These can all be found on our website at http://www.birmingham.ac.uk/hsmc-library and then by selecting the link 'Search our catalogue here'.

Apart from journals, dissertations and, a small selection of reference material all of our books, DVDs, audio-books etc are available for loan.

In order to borrow items from the library you need to have a library borrower card which you will receive when you register with the library. If you have registered with the library but do not have a library card please contact a member of library staff. Details will be provided at the end of this podcast.

You will then be entitled to borrow a total of 6 items from the library for a period of 3 weeks. After this time you will be able to renew your items twice more either online or via a member of library staff as long as they have not been renewed by anyone else.

If the item that you want to borrow is currently on loan to someone else you can place a reservation on it, again either online from the library catalogue, or via a member of the library team, and we will try and obtain it for you as soon as we can.

Don’t forget that you don’t need to come into the library to borrow books. All of our library users are entitled to a free postal loan service! Just email the library team the details of the books you would like and they will do the rest.

For further information about reserving books go to the library website select “library catalogue” or take a look at the library’s Frequently Asked Question section.

We do not at present charge for overdue items. However, we do expect our library users to return their borrowed items by the return date in order to keep the items in circulation for the consideration of other users.

Well, that’s it. I hope that you found this podcast useful. For more information about any of the library services please contact us via our website at: http://www.birmingham.ac.uk/hsmc-library or, phone us on 0121 414 3672, email us at: hsmc-library@contacts.bham.ac.uk or skype us at:hsmclibrary, or check us out on either Facebook or Twitter.

Thank you
