Human Performance Laboratory

The Human Performance Laboratory is located within the School of Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation Sciences and encompasses the research labs of the Exercise Metabolism Research Group.

Our research builds on expertise in exercise biochemistry, physiology, nutrition and metabolism primarily applied to human beings at an integrative level. The overall aims of our group are to investigate determinants of:

  • sports performance at elite and recreational level
  • health effects of exercise in obese, ageing and diseased populations

Our studies aim to create insight in mechanisms ranging from molecular adaptations in tissues up to the measurement of fuel use and key physiological functions at tissue and whole body level.
