Find out how we’re fighting cancer and blood cancers in Birmingham at our Birmingham Cancer Showcase, taking place on Thursday 11 June 2015,
3-8pm at the Medical School, University of Birmingham. This event is jointly organised by Cancer Research UK and Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research.
How to register
Online registration will open shortly.
This free event gives visitors the chance to meet our world-class scientists, researchers, doctors and nurses, and understand more about how discoveries are being taken from the lab into treatments designed to benefit cancer patients. Come “behind the scenes” in our laboratories and tissue bank, with the chance to actually look at cancer cells under the microscope and have a go at being a scientist.
There will be a programme of talks focused on a range of cancers, with local experts on hand to answer any questions. Visitors can also learn more about the science behind the research with fun hands-on demonstrations, and an opportunity to chat with the leading researchers working in Birmingham.
In addition, Cancer Research UK nurses will share information on steps that can be taken to reduce the risk of cancer, with plenty of materials to take away.
Who is this event for?
Anyone who has an interest in learning more about a range of cancers and our progress in Birmingham – including patients and carers, friends and family, anyone interested in science, and supporters of Cancer Research UK and Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research.
The content of talks and activities will be pitched for a ‘lay’ audience, with opportunities to ask more detailed questions of the cancer researchers and doctors during the event.
Younger visitors are welcome, but under 16's are not permitted into the laboratory areas.
The programme for the day will be available soon.
