Richard Viney is a Senior Lecturer in Urology at the University of Birmingham and Consultant Urological Surgeon at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital sub-specialising in urological oncology.
He qualified in 1995 from Birmingham University Medical School with the Kings Heath and Moseley Institute Scholarship. After general surgical training in the West Midlands and an anatomy demonstrating post at Birmingham University, urology training was undertaken on the West Midlands Higher Surgical Training programme. During this programme he undertook a three year sabbatical to work towards a PhD in gene and immunotherapy in prostate cancer.
Current research interests include gene and immunotherapy in prostate cancer as well as immune responses in bladder and testicular cancer. He is currently involved in developing robotic surgery in collaboration with other surgical specialities at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
