Course Summary

This course aims to improve knowledge of allergic disease and thereby increase confidence in managing patients with allergic disease and life threatening reactions.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understanding GI symptoms and food allergy
  • Be confident in instructing patients how to recognise and treat anaphylaxis, including how to use an adrenalin auto injector
  • Understand what is meant by ‘optimal therapy’ in allergic rhinitis and know when to refer for immunotherapy
  • Be confident in diagnosing and managing chronic urticaria and angioedema in general practice
  • Understand drug allergy, drugs to avoid and suitable patients for drug allergy testing
  • Have an overview of venom allergy and treatment options
