Course summary

To provide knowledge of the diagnosis and management of Deep Vein Thrombosis within a primary cares setting and to give information on the major developments surrounding VTE prevention for patients admitted to hospital and why it is relevant in primary care.

Learning objectives

  • An understanding of the aetiology and epidemiology of thrombosis,
  • An understanding of the symptoms and signs of DVT ,
  • An understanding of the guidelines for treatment of thrombosis
  • An understanding of how to set up community management of DVT
  • A knowledge of the major problem of VTE risk for patients admitted to hospital
  • A knowledge of the NICE guidelines for VTE prophylaxis and what can be done in primary care
