In 2013 the Centre of West African Studies (CWAS) celebrates its fiftieth anniversary and the opening of a new Department of African Studies and Anthropology (DASA) at the University of Birmingham.  The Danford Collection of West African Art and Artefacts will be used to celebrate this illustrious history.

Since the initial loan of objects from John Danford in the mid 1960s, the collection has developed through donation, bequest and gift to become one of the finest examples of its kind. Given the collection's central role in the story of the development of the Centre, it is appropriate that its diversity and range will be celebrated through exhibitions and visual arts projects linked to key areas of the history of CWAS.  The series of events will include exhibitions located both within the Centre and around campus.
