New Innovators Competition
The New Innovators Competition was launched in November as part of the Alta Innovations / Enterprise Acceleration Team joint initiative to promote Global Entrepreneurship Week. The competition was open to any member of research staff with an innovative idea for creation of economic impact from their research via the development of a commercial product or process.
We had some really interesting ideas which made judging very difficult but in the end the winners were:
Miranda Bradshaw and Dr Clive Speake from the School of Physics and Astronomy for their idea; The Absolute Long Range Tilt Insensitive Interferometer – an innovative advance in measuring small displacements.
Dr Felicity De Cogan working as part of a team in Clinical Experimental Medicine for their idea; Novel Coatings for Orthopaedic and Dental Implants – a new process to reduce the problem of failure of titanium implants
Dr Jill Ramsay working in the School of Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation Services for her idea; The Integrated Hand Hygiene Assessment Tool a new tool to help improve hand hygiene in healthcare and community settings.
Each of the winners will receive £2000 to invest in the development of their idea, working with the Alta Innovations Team.
