Overview of the ALMP

Below is an overview of the process with timelines – please note that with the exception of the application open and close date, other dates are listed purely for guidance purposes and may change.

Getting a mentor

  • Mentoring scheme opens (10 March 2014)
  • Students apply on-line (10 March – 11 May 2014)
  • Application deadline reached (11 May 2014)
  • Short-listing takes place (12 – 19 May 2014)
  • Short-listed candidates invited for interview (20 – 23 May 2014)
  • Presentation and interview training (w/c 26 May 2014)
  • Interviews take place (3 – 9 June 2014 for non-medical mentors, 30 June-1 July for medical mentors)

If you are successful

  • Mentees matched to mentors (10 – 27 June 2014 for non-medical mentors. Most decisions will be made by 13 June but some mentors will make the final decision themselves so time is allowed in case of mentor out of country on business). For medical mentors most decisions will be made by 4 July 2014 but allow until 18 July for the same reasons.
  • Mentees notified whether they have been successful or not (10 – 27 June 2014 for non-medical mentors. Most mentees will be notified by 13 June but some mentors will make the final decision themselves so time is allowed in case of mentor out of country on business). For medical mentors most mentees will be notified by 4 July but allow until 18 July for the same reason.
  • Group mentee induction training session and student work book issued (w/c 29 September 2014)
  • Mentee will provide a brief biography to be sent to mentors (6 October 2014)

Your time with your mentor

  • Mentor contacts mentee – mentoring process begins (17 October 2014)
  • Mentor / mentee progress monitored / reviewed (November/December)
  • Mentee reflection session on progress to date (January 2015)
  • Mentoring concludes (July 2015)
  • Feedback / evaluation from mentees / mentors (July 2015)
  • Annual celebration event in London (July 2015)
