GBCHealth serves as a hub for private sector engagement on the world's most pressing global health issues. Since 2001, GBCHealth has worked with hundreds of members -- individually and in partnership with one other -- to tackle the challenges of HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, diabetes and other health issues facing the workplace and communities where business is conducted.

About the internship

A fantastic opportunity exists to intern in the Membership Department whose overall priorities are to advise companies and organizations about the best business approaches to fighting HIV/AIDS, TB and malaria, as well as other global health issues. They work to improve the health of workers, communities and customers around the world by advising companies directly, developing case studies and best practices, brokering partnerships and convening partners at high-level events around the world. Within the Membership Department, the Content Team is responsible for driving technical content, resources and guidance within the organization and among GBCHealth’s membership.

The Global Membership Intern position offers a hands-on, substantive experience that contributes to GBCHealth’s membership services, and exposes the intern to a wide variety of professional development opportunities. These activities span business development, research, fundraising initiatives, and grant management/ proposal development which support GBCHealth activities globally. The Membership Intern will support both operations and content development for the membership team, and the work will include research, event management and support, working with account managers. Also, you will at times perform administrative duties, including assistance in organising correspondence and events, coordinating e-mail and print mailings, and providing database support / maintenance.

The position will run for 8 weeks between June and late August 2012, with a flexible start date. All costs will be covered by Global Challenge.

Qualifications and skills

  • Experience in project management and managing competing priorities
  • Exceptional attention to detail, highly organized and ability to multi-task and adapt in a high-paced and dynamic environment
  • Enthusiasm, passion and interest for the work required
  • Strong computer knowledge, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Solid writing, editing and research experience and skills
  • Experience working in an international organization working across clients with different language and cultural backgrounds a plus
  • Experience or interest in business, public health and/or corporate social responsibility a plus
  • All interested candidates should be available full time during business hours (9am - 6pm)
