The Moth media internship

About the organisation

The Moth is an acclaimed not-for-profit organization dedicated to the art and craft of storytelling. It is a celebration of both the raconteur, who breathes fire into true tales of ordinary life, and the storytelling novice, who has lived through something extraordinary and yearns to share it. At the centre of each performance is, of course, the story – and The Moth’s directors work with each storyteller to find, shape and present it.

About the internship

The Media Intern will assist the Moth's media team with a variety of video, audio and photo-based tasks. This is an excellent opportunity to see the inside of a growing not-for-profit arts organization, and to meet and work with many wonderful people in the literary, theatre, media and non-profit communities, while also improving skills.

The Moth currently has an audio pitch line, where potential storytellers are allowed to give a one to two minute pitch for our flagship Mainstage series. Some of most memorable stories of the last few years have come from this program (a teenager who escaped from Afghanistan without her parents, a young man who tracked down the person who stole his identity, a woman who ran away from her disintegrating family only to be pulled into a cult...). The student's job will be to help organize and listen to these pitches, and help identify which ones would make amazing stories for our Mainstage, which would be good to put on the radio, and so on.

Duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Listening and screening pitches for future Mainstage shows
  • Assistance in maintaining The Moth's video, audio, and photo archive
  • Assisting with internal and external media requests, as needed
  • Other responsibilities, to be determined closer to the date of the internship

This internship is 5 days/week, 10:00 - 18:00, 3 June 2013 - 2 August 2013; The Moth is based in NYC. All costs will be covered by Global Challenge.
