The Moth production internship
About the organisation
The Moth is an acclaimed not-for-profit organization dedicated to the art and craft of storytelling. It is a celebration of both the raconteur, who breathes fire into true tales of ordinary life, and the storytelling novice, who has lived through something extraordinary and yearns to share it. At the centre of each performance is, of course, the story – and The Moth’s directors work with each storyteller to find, shape and present it. Through its ongoing programs – The Moth Mainstage, The Moth StorySLAMs, MothSHOP Corporate and MothSHOP Community Education Program – The Moth has presented more than three thousand stories, told live and without notes, to standing-room only crowds worldwide. The Moth podcast is downloaded more than one million times a month, and the seventh season of the Peabody Award – winning The Moth Radio hour, produced by Jay Allison and presented by PRX, The Public Radio Exchange, will air this fall on radio stations nationwide. www.themoth.org

About the internship
We want to expose interested candidates to our Production process that involves coordinating performances with a variety of different venues throughout New York City. We also aim to engage the intern in the process of assessing the content of stories and seeing how they relate to The Moth’s standards for superlative storytelling.
The Moth Production intern will assist the Production Team as they curate and execute The Moth Mainstage and StorySLAM series in New York City. Additional office-based support may be needed to help the On The Road Producers as they organize shows across the US. On show days, staff depart for the venue at 4pm and you will be expected to assist the Producer throughout the evening, as required.
The production intern will also handle StorySLAM post-production as media and legal releases are sent in weekly from our SLAM series around the country (currently in six cities, expanding this year). You will also assist the Development department when required and be responsible for general office duties.
The intern will be involved in all aspects of pre and post production for events, including the managing of releases, our Patron database, data entry, story screening, transcription, venue research, merch organisation and more.
Above all, the Production department is looking for an intern who loves the concept of The Moth and has enough personal interest and initiative to share their ideas and thoughts. This is an excellent opportunity to see the inside of a growing not-for-profit arts organization, and to meet and work with many wonderful people in the literary, theatre, media and non-profit communities, while also improving skills.
This internship is 5 days/week, 10:00 - 18:00, from 3 June 2013 - 2 August 2013; The Moth is based in NYC. All costs will be covered by Global Challenge.
