Tickets and seats

Students in their seats for Degree CongregationsAttendance at graduation ceremonies is allocated by ticket. You will automatically be given tickets for yourself and two guests, and additional tickets may be available on the day.

How many tickets do I get?

You are automatically allocated your own graduand ticket plus two guest tickets. You will be able to pick them up on the day of your ceremony.

These tickets are guaranteed once you have confirmed your attendance and completed your programme of study.

Your College may have arranged its own social function for the day of your graduation. You should not confuse any tickets associated with these events with the actual ceremony tickets.

Collecting your tickets

You should collect your tickets (both your own ticket and your two guest tickets) on the day of your ceremony from the Ticket Desk in the Avon Room Coffee Lounge. You will not receive tickets in the post.

The Ticket Desk is open at the following times:

  • 8.15am for the 10.30am Congregation
  • 11.30am for the 1.45pm Congregation
  • 1.15pm for the 3.30pm Congregation (on Wednesday 13 July only)
  • 2.15pm for the 4.30pm Congregation

Getting additional tickets

Any additional tickets will be made available on a first-come first-served basis, on the day of your Degree Congregation from the Ticket Desk in the Avon Room Coffee Lounge.

We typically find that very few additional tickets are available in July, however confirmation of the number of additional tickets available will be posted here on Wednesday 27 June 2012.

There is no process for pre-ordering additional tickets, so we politely ask graduands and guests to not contact the Examinations and Congregations Office to reserve them.

Are our seats reserved?

Your graduand seat is reserved. You will be assigned the seat number that corresponds to the order in which you appear in the congregation programme.

Guest seating is allocated on a first-come first-served basis, and there will be seats for everyone with a ticket.

What if my guests do not get additional tickets?

If you cannot get additional tickets, your extra guests may be able to watch the ceremony live in one of our Television Screening Rooms.  No tickets are required for these venues - seats are only available on a first-come first-served basis.  The Television Screening Rooms will be signposted from the Great Hall.

Visa to attend the ceremony

Please read our visitor visa guide if you or your guests need a visa to attend Degree Congregations.

In support of your application, the University can produce a letter that states that you have been invited to attend a Degree Congregation, and that you are able to bring two guests with you to the ceremony. We are unable to issue named invitations to your guests.

You can get a copy of the letter you need by submitting a query online to Enquiry Services.
