Our growing links and partnerships in Brazil are supported by a permanent presence within the country and frequent visits to the country by senior representatives. We also host many visits to campus from key partners, as well as welcoming an increasing number of students and visiting staff from Brazil. Unique Partnership with UFSC Celebrated in Florianópolis

Translation and Discourse Studies academics from the University of Birmingham and Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC) gathered in Florianópolis on Friday 12 April 2014 to celebrate a unique 27-year partnership, which is thought to be Birmingham’s longest.

Birmingham Academics Visit Brazil to Promote Sustainable Development in the Amazon

(l-r): Dr Pamela Robinson (Birmingham Business School), Professor Rob MacKenzie (School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences), Dr Caroline Cowan (British Embassy Brasilia), Patricia Latter (Royal Veterinary College)Brazil is not only about the World Cup, or even the next Olympics, it is also an arena to discuss the future of a sustainable Amazon. In early October Dr Pamela Robinson and Prof Rob MacKenzie visited Brazil to take part in a workshop in the Amazon, organised by the UK Science and Innovation Network, where participants from the UK and Brazil considered the promotion of sustainable development in the Amazon. University welcomes Brazil visiting Fellows

We were delighted to welcome a new cohort of Brazil Visiting Fellows to the University at a recent lunch hosted by Professor Malcolm Press, Pro-Vice Chancellor and Head of the College of Life and Environmental Sciences, and Andrea Edwards, Director of International Development.

Professor Cynthia Hiraga (UNESP), Dr Gisele Schwartz (UNESP), Dr Silvia Deutsch (UNESP) and Ms Samira Jalil (UNILA) will all spend three months at the University working on collaborative projects with University of Birmingham colleagues in the fields of Motor Control, Sports Psychology, Youth participation in Sport and Multi-Lingualism.

HM Ambassador to Brazil visits the University

We welcomed HM Ambassador to Brazil (designate) Alex Ellis to the campus on 19 June 2013.  The visit provided an opportunity to update the Ambassador on the University's engagement in Brazil and a reception at the Barber Institute was organised to enable the Ambassador to meet colleagues from UoB working in partnership with Brazilian institutions and our current Brazil Visiting Fellows.
