Student Profiles
Michael Lawer, MA International Relations (Security), 2011/12
"Located within a vibrant and easy to get around city, I got nothing but the best at the University. With a train station on the University campus I had the options of choosing train, bus, or taxi services which are readily available to get round the city. The University epitomises unity in diversity as staff and students see themselves as one big family despite the differences in nationality and cultural backgrounds. I’ve not travelled around the world but my stay at the University of Birmingham makes me feel like I have. Indeed the University is a microcosm of the world.
It was a great privilege to be taught by professors with practical working experience with international organisations such as United Nations. Lecturers are eager to assist students in and out of the classroom which makes academic success very certain. Learning and sporting facilities are superb. Libraries are well resourced with up-to-date materials as well as free internet service. In less than a year it’s enormously added to the quantum of knowledge I have. I have no reservation whatsoever in recommending The University of Birmingham to anyone seeking quality and all-round education."
Castro Nyoagbe, MSc Road Management and Engineering, 2010/11
"The University of Birmingham is not only an institution with a rich history but it remains an environment for academic excellence and self development.
Being a Ghanaian, it is very comforting to belong to such a vast international community with a good representation of people from diverse international and academic backgrounds. This diversity notwithstanding, both the academic and support staff strive to meet the varied individual needs of all students.
My chosen postgraduate programme is precisely tailored to fit my current training needs as well as ensure that the knowledge I acquire after my training in the University remains relevant to my ambitions for the future.
The University of Birmingham is a place for international postgraduate students due to its superb academic and support staff, facilities and conducive research environment. The University Graduate School, with its numerous varieties of training and associated programmes, helps a raw postgraduate student acquire requisite skills to look for and secure an appropriate career."
