The University Library has significant collections of books and other material for the study of drama, theatre studies and the history of the theatre

Our collection

Main Library

Resources for drama are shared between the Main Library, and the Orchard Learning Resource Centre.

The Library subscribes to around thirty journals devoted to drama and theatre studies.

The Shakespeare Institute

The Shakespeare Institute Library in Stratford-upon-Avon contains our world-renowned research and reference collection for the study of Shakespeare and the Elizabethan theatre.

Special Collections

The Cadbury Research Library holds a number of important archive collections.

The Theatre Collection consists of some 5,000 printed articles, cuttings, playbills and photographs relating to theatre performances in London and the provinces during the twentieth century.

We hold the personal papers of playwrights and actors such as Noel Coward and Beatrice Campbell (Mrs Patrick Campbell), and Norman Painting.
