The University provides general and specialist research level collections of books, journals and electronic resources for the study of Engineering.
Our collections are now heavily based on online material including electronic journals, databases and reference books, with an increasing number of online text books.
The Main Library holds general and specialist research level collections in
- Civil Engineering
- Chemical Engineering
- Electronic & Computer Engineering
- Materials and Metallurgy
- Mechanical Engineering
And related areas including
- Fuel and Energy technologies
- Food Engineering
- Automotive Engineering
- Transport Engineering
Subject specific books are mostly located in Zone LGC with print journals located in Zone 1D
A main strength of our collection is in our electronic resources. Some of these are available to visitors to the Library.
Whilst most of the engineering stock is available from the Main Library, some more specialised areas relating to medical, dental, biosciences and biomedical engineering are housed at the Barnes Library and The Ronald Cohen Dental Library.
If you wish to carry out historical research into engineering, the Cadbury Research Library: Special Collections holds a number of archive collections available for research. These include the papers of Dr Ernest A. Watson OBE, detailing his scientific and engineering career, and University of Birmingham staff and student papers relating to engineering courses throughout the 20th century. Please contact the Cadbury Research Library if you’d like further information.
