The University Library provides general and specialist research level collections of books, journals, and electronic resources for the study of the physical sciences.
Our collections are now heavily based on online material including electronic journals, databases and reference books, with an increasing number of online text books available
The Main Library holds general and specialist research level collections in Astronomy, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics and Physics, both books and printed journals are located mostly in Zone LGC.
A main strength of our collections is in our electronic resources. Some of these are available to visitors.
Cadbury Research Library: Special Collections holds a number of important archive collections available for research into the study of the physical sciences. These include the archive of the Mason Science College; the Birmingham University Astronomical Society, 1909-1912; the University of Birmingham Chemical Society; papers of Sir Oliver Lodge, (1851-1940), and the papers of Maurice Stacey, including the History of Chemistry in Birmingham, 1930-1987 and papers relating to the Lunar Society of Birmingham. Please contact the Cadbury Research Library for further information.
Whilst most of the physical sciences stock is available from the Main Library, some more specialised areas relating to medical, dental, biochemistry, STEM and the history of science are housed at the Barnes Library, the Dental Library and the Education Library. Older stock, particularly for physics related areas, is available on request from the Library Store.
