The University offers a range of specialist and general texts, journals, rare and early printed sources, manuscripts and electronic resources for the study of Music.
The Main Library
The Main Library houses a general and specialist research level collection of texts especially strong in Baroque music, 20th-century English music and 20th-century Italian music.
The collection includes
- Collected editions
- The library subscribes to over 60 periodicals for music and provides access to many rare and historic titles through electronic and paper holdings
- Extensive microfilm collection
- Vinyl recordings CDs and DVDs of historic performances
Cadbury Research Library: Special Collections holds a number of archive collections related to prominent composers available for research. Including Edward Elgar, Granville Bantock, Christopher Edmunds, and Percy Grainger. Also held is a significant collection of scores of musical works commissioned by the John Feeney Charitable Trust as first performed by the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra; the Music Manuscript collection; the Shaw-Hellier Collection (18th century music manuscripts), and many other archival collections.
