Birmingham's groundreaking research in developing cloaking devices was featured in today's Metro and as part of a feature on big ideas in the Daily Mirror. The Centre for Rare Diseases and future fuels projects were also mentioned.

'One of the key findings of my research, in the wider perceptions is that Muslims are supportive of terrorism, whether that’s overtly or covertly, and I think that again these sort of messages of government that they are sending out are reinforced in the public spaces and from that you then get the kind of unfounded discrimination against Muslims.' Talking about mass infections like the plague in the Middle Ages.

'People have been taking a fresh look at where viruses are on us and in the environement and they have been absolutely astounded that there are so many viruses out there. If you look at the ocean it teams with viruses or the human gut there are also huge numbers.' (Prof Mark Pallen - June 9)

The University's plans to recruit 50 Birmingham Fellows was featured in the Times Higher and Birmingham Post. The Birmingham Fellows will be outstanding post-doctoral researchers who are on a trajectory to become the next generation of research and academic leaders.
